Staying Spiritually Aligned in My Career: Part 2 – Practical Practices for Balance

By Rhonda Coleman Wandel

Welcome back, friends. In Part 1 of this series, I shared how I define spirituality and how that foundation has shaped the way I approach my career. For me, spirituality isn’t about dogma—it’s about staying anchored in purpose, aligned with my values, and open to divine guidance as I navigate my professional path.

But let’s be honest—life gets busy. And when we’re juggling roles, responsibilities, and ambitions, it’s easy to drift away from that center. That’s why this second part is all about the real-life, practical things I do to stay spiritually grounded while building a meaningful, fulfilling career.

Let’s dive in.

🧘🏽‍♀️ Daily Practices for Spiritual Alignment

Mindfulness & Reflection
One of the most transformative tools I rely on is stillness. Whether it’s prayer, meditation, or simply closing my eyes for a few minutes, quiet time is non-negotiable. When I skip it, everything feels off—my emotions, my focus, even my confidence.

Right now, life is full in the best way. I’m meeting incredible people, working on the podcast, planning the summit, and managing the beautiful chaos of family life. It’s a lot—and without a way to reset, my energy can go into overdrive.

My go-to? Yogic meditation—specifically the breath-centered practices taught by Sadhguru. I’ve cycled through every meditation on his app, but Shambhavi Mahamudra Kriya is the one that brings me back to center every time. It’s a deeply energizing and balancing practice that helps me align from the inside out.

Journaling
Journaling is my processing tool, my mirror, and my archive of growth. It’s one thing to think your thoughts—it’s another to see them on paper. Writing helps me unpack emotions, clarify goals, and recognize divine moments I might have otherwise missed. Reading back over old entries often gives me the exact clarity I didn’t know I needed.

Listening to Intuition
I’ve learned to trust my gut. And that wasn’t always easy—especially in professional settings where we’re often taught to prioritize logic over instinct. But intuition is one of the most powerful tools we have. When I make decisions that feel aligned—not just strategic—they usually turn out to be the right ones. My intuition is part of my spiritual GPS.

🌍 Staying Grounded in a Fast-Paced World

Blocking Out the Noise
We are constantly inundated with messages about what success should look like. But here’s the truth: the more clarity I have around my version of success, the less noise I hear from the outside world.

Surrounding yourself with the right people also matters. A good manager who truly sees you and supports your growth is worth more than a title or a salary bump. When you’re networking—whether within your current company or outside of it—pay close attention to leadership and team dynamics. Those are the people who will either amplify your voice or silence it.

Setting Intentions
Productivity is great. But purpose is better. I try to begin each workday by setting an intention: Who do I want to be today? What kind of energy do I want to bring into this space? It’s a small habit that makes a big difference in how I show up.

Creating Boundaries
This one is ongoing for me. I love what I do—and that can make it hard to turn it off. But I’ve learned that honoring my limits is not weakness; it’s wisdom. Ambition doesn’t have to come at the expense of well-being.

✨ Finding Spiritual Connections in Career

Mentorship & Sponsorship
There’s a divine timing to everything—and that includes the people who show up on your path. A recent conversation with a GC at one of the Alphabet companies reminded me of this. He asked me if I had a sponsor. That one question led me to reevaluate the network I’ve built over 12 years in the legal industry.

I started going through my LinkedIn contacts, compiling names in a spreadsheet, and guess what? I found that I have plenty of sponsors—people who believe in me, know my work, and are willing to speak my name in rooms I haven’t yet entered. You might have more advocates in your life than you realize.

Recognizing Signs & Synchronicities
Stay awake to the little miracles. At a recent Crush Contracts Academy event (shoutout to Roma Khan for creating such a powerful space for legal professionals!), I was asked to pair up with someone to problem-solve. I locked eyes with a woman I’d never met—but the energy just felt right. Turns out, she practices in a complementary area of law and wants to connect me to her network. Oh—and she’s excited about one of my podcast projects. That’s divine alignment. That’s the universe saying, Keep going.

Giving Back & Helping Others
The most spiritual act we can take in our careers? Lifting others as we climb. Whether through mentorship, advocacy, or simply listening, giving back grounds me. It reminds me that success is sweeter when it’s shared.
